Words of Wisdom Ibn al-Qayyim. Ibn Qayyim said: "If you were to taste the pleasure of the hereafter, your drunken heart would sober up. Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah may Allah have mercy upon him stated: The origins of wrongdoing are three: 1. Arrogance: It is that which drove Iblees to that which it drove him i.
Desire: It is that which caused Aadam to be expelled from the Paradise. Jealousy: It is that which caused one of the sons of Aadam to transgress against his brother. Therefore, whoever is protected from the evil of these three traits then indeed he has been protected from evil.

He loves those who repent and it is because of His love for His creation that He tests them with sins so that He may shower His Blessings and Favours upon them after they repent. Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah
Of humble origin, Ibn al-Qayyim's father was the principal qayyim of the School of Jawziyya , which also served as a court of law for the Hanbali judge of Damascus during the time period. Ibn al-Qayyim's main teacher was the scholar Ibn Taymiyyah. Ibn al-Qayyim was imprisoned along with his teacher Ibn Taymiyyah. According to the historian al-Maqrizi , two reasons led to his arrest: the first was a sermon Ibn al-Qayyim had delivered in Jerusalem in which he decried the visitation of holy graves, including the Prophet Muhammad's grave in Medina, the second was his agreement with Ibn Taymiyyah's view on the matter of divorce, which contradicted the view of the majority of scholars in Damascus.

This blessed book is not like others that simply contain sections, chapters and themes, but it consists of the elevated thoughts that Allah, Exalted be He, bestows upon some of His servants as He wills. So whenever any of these scattered pearls of wisdom occurred to the Imam, he would immediately record them. I am sure that he did not sit down and write this book in one or two weeks, but surely it was developed over a long period of time. Whenever something came to his mind, he would record it, and whenever he learnt a lesson or anything crucial in his life, he would illuminate the lines of his page with the ink of his pen.
